Your Authentic Self is Revealed in the Moments You Choose Love.
Human behavior is full of contradictions. Sometimes we’re compassionate and selfless, and other times we act out of selfish ambition or fear. It’s natural to wonder: when I feel pulled in so many directions, which version of me is the real me?

This question matters, especially when you've made choices you regret. In those moments of self-reflection, you may find yourself questioning your own character. Am I the person who lashes out? Am I the one who acts selfishly? Or am I the one who loves deeply and freely?
There are some Christians who believe that we were created to love and be loved. That God is Love. That when we abide in God's love, without expecting anything in return, we are living out our most authentic self.
“Next time you’re questioning who you are, remember: the one that loves is the real you.”
Thomas Aquinas described love as willing the good of another with no expectation of anything in return. This is the kind of love that reflects our created purpose—the one that God intended.—Jesus demonstrated this love throughout His life, through compassion, forgiveness, and charity, even toward those who wronged Him. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live out that same love.
So, when you catch yourself in those darker moments—when fear or anger surface—remember that these are reactions, not who you were created to be. In that sense, they are not the real you. The real you is the one who loves. When you choose kindness, you are not just doing good—you are being true to who God created you to be.
If you’re struggling to reconcile past mistakes, remind yourself that these moments don’t have to define you. You can turn toward love. Your authentic self is revealed in the moments when you choose love. Return to love. Embracing this truth can help you move past shame and focus on growing toward your true purpose.
Next time you’re questioning who you are, remember: the one that loves is the real you.
